Often, you will hear someone say: this man or woman is very well-
educated. Or: so-
and-
so has a very good all-
round education. This means that a person knows a lot. In other words, education is the entire knowledge that someone possesses. But it also means the way in which this knowledge was gained. This can be at school, in an apprenticeship or at university. But one can also teach oneself a lot if one is very curious, reads a lot and is interested in a lot of different topics. There is no age limit in education.
But "education” also means something else that goes beyond just the gathering of knowledge. This is a kind of inner education, a person’s mental and spiritual education. It gives people the ability to act responsibly in their lives and to use their abilities and talents in a responsible way. This includes the readiness to consider one’s fellow human beings and to act accordingly.
