This commission is responsible for making sure that all decisions are actually implemented in the countries of the
European Union. The Commission consists of the "EU Commissioners", who are nominated by the governments of the EU member states and appointed for five years. Each EU state provides one Commissioner, each of whom is given a particular area of responsibility.
Let us say, for example, that a country has incurred more debts than is allowed under EU treaties. The state then has to explain to the Commission how it intends to pay off its debts again. If the country does not manage to do so, the EU Commissioner will impose a fine. The EU Commission is also a kind of European executive. For example, the Commission also supervises economic development in the EU.
