A terrorist attack in London in the summer of 2005 killed and injured many hundreds of people.
Terrorists are people who spread terror and fear. They try to obtain their objectives by means of terrible attacks and abductions in which a lot of people often die. Terrorists mostly attempt to justify their ruthless and brutal actions by saying they want a different, better world, and give political or religious reasons. But what kind of a world would it be in which most people live in fear and terror?
In many countries, such as Northern Ireland, Spain, the Middle East or some South American or Southeast Asian states, terrorists call themselves resistance or freedom fighters. Sometimes they want to gain independence for a region, and any means of reaching this goal seems justified to them. One particularly unpredictable form of terrorism are so-
called suicide attacks. Here, terrorists give up their own lives to attain their goals, as in the attacks on the New York World Trade Center on 11 September 2001: terrorists hijacked planes and crashed into the buildings, killing thousands of people. But it is not only individual people who can be terrorists. There are also states that oppress their people using cruel methods.
